Country Labor Executive

Country Labor

Who we are

Country Labor Executive (CLX) forms the voice of regional Victoria within the Victorian Branch of the ALP. Members of the ALP from rural and regional electorates are automatically represented by CLX. ‘The nine FEAs currently represented by CLX are Ballarat, Bendigo, Corangamite, Gippsland, Indi, Mallee, Monash, Nicholls and Wannon.

CLX holds three Regional Forums each year to listen to the needs of rural and regional Victorians and promote ALP policies in rural and regional areas.

Country Labor Executive

CLX is an elected group of 20 ALP members from rural & regional Victoria.   CLX originally grew out of a Policy Committee – Rural and Regional Affairs Policy Committee. In 1998, the committee changed its name to Country Labor Executive and CLX has played an important role in advocating ALP policy across rural and regional Victoria in elections since then.

CLX organises a Regional Forum in Eastern, Northern and Western Victoria Regions each year in conjunction with local Branches and sometimes Policy Committees.

Part of the executive’s role is to undertake policy development work on issues that affect rural and regional Victorians, such as:

  • agriculture
  • service delivery
  • the environment
  • local government
  • regional development
  • transport

Country Labor Executive strives to ensure that the voice of rural and regional Victoria remains a strong one within the ALP.
